Reading is always helpful, especially if you want to learn more about increasing your chances of survival in certain situations. Give these prepper medical books a spot in your bookcase!
Prepper Medical Books as Survival Resources
Most preppers have a serious hole in their game when it comes to medical skills and preparedness. I’m consistently surprised at how many people are incapable of even basic first aid. They just don’t know where to begin!
What’s more interesting is that we are all able to take a free yearly course with our local CERT. These 8-hour classes give you hands-on training and tons of information.
There are also great resources, designed for preppers, that you can obtain and sit on a shelf in your home. Don’t underestimate hard copy information in the age of the digital.
Let’s look at 5 prepper medical books for your survival library.
1. Survival Medicine Handbook
The Survival Medicine Handbook: A guide for when help is NOT on the way
- Amazon Kindle Edition
- Alton, Joseph (Author)
One of the first and most informative medical guides for preppers was put together by Joseph Alton and his wife Amy.
Joseph and Amy coming from an educated and practiced medical background compiled an amazing book that was the first of its kind for the average person to read and consider medical care during an SHTF Situation.
This book is deep with knowledge and does as much to inform you about the things you should have at home as it does with actual instruction on how to heal your loved ones when medical care is no longer an option.

This book by William W. Forgey is an incredible collection of chapters on things like medical care off-grid, assessment, and stabilization as well as signs and symptoms. Everything from soft tissue trauma to bone and joint pain and injury is covered in this great read.
This book culminates with instruction to create your own DIY Off-Grid Medical Kit
3. Doomsday Book of Medicine
The Doomsday Book of Medicine was the first prepper medical guide I received and that is a good thing because this book is a MANUAL of information. Ralph Laguardia created an incredible read.
This book is not just a medical manual but also covers incredible information on health and wellness discussing topics like fitness and diet as key players in the overall performance of the body.
This book also talks about using everyday items to treat injury and illness. The chapter on baking soda is particularly enlightening.
4. Alton’s Antibiotics
Alton’s Antibiotics and Infectious Disease: The Layman’s Guide to Available Antibacterials in Austere Settings
- Alton MD, Joseph (Author)
- English (Publication Language)
There are some infections that simply require antibiotics. It’s antibiotics or the coffin. Because of this, Joe Alton made his way back to publishing and created the definitive guide to preppers and antibiotics.
This guide is designed to teach people how to dose antibiotics for particular diseases and where a regular prepper can get the antibiotics they need. It’s not like you can just go to the doctor’s office and ask them for some antibiotics to weather the coming DOOMSDAY!
This book is a must-have for the dosing information on antibiotics. It is literally a lifesaver.

Dave Canterbury is one of the top bushcrafters of all time. He has created a catalog of videos on many wilderness survival, blacksmithing, and bushcraft videos. Dave also has a vast collection of products over at Self Reliance Outfitters.
His lifestyle has allowed him to spend countless hours in the woods developing his skills in this precious “dirt time” and logging that knowledge in a collection of books.
One of the best books Dave has ever written is simply titled Bushcraft First Aid. This title is a manual for caring for those suffering from injury and illness while in the wild.
This book covers all aspects of basic first aid, how to treat common injuries in the wild, and even a breakdown of wild medicines for the use of treating injuries and illness. I bought this book for the wild medicinal section but was extremely impressed with all that it offered.
There is also a color palette of all the wild medicinal mentioned in the section. These are great because each profile tells you how to use foraged medicine and what it would work best to treat.
Don’t Just Collect Gear, Collect Prepper Books, Too
In a true SHTF situation, there are going to be a lot of threats that keep you up at night. It’s one of the reasons we prep so hard. We want to either eliminate those threats or have a game plan to deal with them.
When it comes to first aid and medical care, the absolute best thing we can have on hand is a proper survival library. Remember, we cannot depend on the internet and Google to be around in an SHTF situation. All those PDFs you downloaded might not be accessible after an EMP.
Hard copy information like good books will always take the first position in times of chaos. Don’t be left wondering what is wrong with a family member or how to treat them. Get your hands on one or a few of these books, today!
